i have to write a thesis for 11th grade research paper from american studies on a topic that must focus on something in American culture that has changed during the past 100 years and I msut assess what the change has meant for the society as a whole.

My topic is recreational drugs. Teacher told me to answer these questions and put them into a logical thesis.

1) What has changed

the way how people look at recreational drugs now

2) How has it changed

people are smarter, and they are making smarter decisions about whether they should or should take drugs, and what effects it can have on them.

3)How has it changed society?

there is less drug use in the society

my thesis so far:

The use of recreational drugs since the 1960s has caused carelessness in peoples%26#039; lives, and impacted both crime and death rates, making the United States take control of the drug trafficking and creating more anti-drug programs to educate people about the matter.

I would keep out words like carelessness which is a judgement that can%26#039;t fully be defended without extensive research. You need to stay objective and stick to the facts. One thing you failed to mention is that as the government has created anti-drug programs, they have also had to build new prisons to house people jailed for drug possession/trafficking/use. I would also simplify my thesis and not cover so many variables- you mention, crime, death, drug trafficking, and anti-drug programs. Maybe choose one or two to develop fully instead of glossing over several. Good luck.
