Prestonwood Baptist/Plano, Texas spends over $200,000.00 per month on utilities...?

Plano is a suburb of Dallas....and the pastor of this church was formerly the head of the Southern Baptist Convention. This churches %26quot;compound%26quot; has a school, a store, and a restaurant.

My questions are these:

How do you feel about churches using the money given to God in way of a tithe to be used toward such extreme expenses?

Considering the Dallas schools have a drop out rate of over 50%...do you think it may be better use of God%26#039;s money/people, if instead of closing themselves off in their compound in the suburbs...if they sent their good teachers to the Dallas school district? Maybe lived and built their church in the area with the neediest?

Do you think God would build a multi-million dollar facility to preach from? Or, do you think he would preach from a donated warehouse...and give the collected money to the poor, orphans, widows and truly needy?

What is God%26#039;s work? Helping the less fortunate, or building a compound in the white suburbs?

Your thoughts?

The Bible tells us that you can%26#039;t serve God and money, that one of the two will be your master. [But of course, this is overlooked and acceptable as long as you are using the Bible to harm gay people.]

I used to live near Six Flags over Jesus. That place is bigger than the nearby mall. Bellevue Baptist in Memphis is even bigger. There%26#039;s Mega Mosques that are popping up in the Midwest. The Watchtower Society runs a commercial enterprise and the Catholic Church has an Empire. Creflo Dollar carries himself like a pimp.

These enterprises need to be taxed like any other big business.

Usually approx 50% of tithes and offerings go toward administrative, ie utilities, pastors, secretaries, phone, fax, supplies. The other 50% go toward community charities etc. So if they are spending 2k just on utilities, imagine how much more is going to the community!!

People want a comfortable place to worship...to get their spiritual %26#039;fill-up%26#039;

Peace and Blessings...

Those Southern Baptists can scare me sometimes, always asking for money and then not spending it well.

I mean, if they%26#039;re going to spend so much time and effort making buildings (which is fine by me, by the way), why don%26#039;t they make them *pretty*? Just about every Catholic parish I%26#039;ve seen is at least ten times prettier than any Baptist building.

It%26#039;s wrong. That money could be used to help the poor, fix New Orleans, and helps hospitals everywhere. Unlike Christians, they do something for the world.

Obviously, in Texas, God only helps those that help themselves...

Sure, the money would be better spent in the poorest of areas. But, thats not where they go to church!! God forbid that money goes to helping poor immigrants or something!

Couldn%26#039;t care less.........their church, their money.

its a tax free scam to line pockets....

todays %26quot;religious%26quot; leaders outght to be ashamed of the way they pilfer $ from the nimble minded.

Lovely to see how wasteful they are.

Wasteful people are the brothers of Satan.

First and foremost, they are not doing it with my money. Live and let live. If that is what they want to do, let them do it. It is their money and their contributors are not squawking about it.

Does thier school have a drop out rate of 50%?

It is their money they can do what they want with it.

It is not my place to judge them.

I think it is too much. . . .but everything is bigger in Texas. =)

It is up to the leaders of that church to seek God%26#039;s will and guidance in how to be good stewards of the money that God gives them. It is to God that they must answer.

You oversimplify when you look only at these external issues. If I were attending the church, I would be looking at the overall picture of the influence and effect the church is able to have in the community and the world. Often a larger, %26quot;multi-million- dollar facility%26quot; is better able to draw the community in and to pool resources to greater effectiveness.

For example, a church of 100 might only be able to come up with enough money to help a few children in an African village. A church of 500 might be able to sponsor an entire village and so on. It is difficult (though not impossible) to sustain a large congregation without a permanent building. When you get into the larger numbers, that building will inevitably cost in the Multi-million-dollar range. Donated warehouses are great, but they are limited in whom they can reach. Church leaders must pray and weigh many things in making decision. Ultimately they must answer to God.

I personally, don%26#039;t believe that God has only one way that things can be done. He works differently through different leaders and congregations. I believe that God has a place in his plans for both small congregations and %26quot;mega churches.%26quot;

I remember when it was just a huge church on arapahoe and hillcrest I came from up north and have never seen a church that big I would wonder why do you need a church that big what is exactly going on in there. that was 15 years ago and I%26#039;ve seen the bigger one in Plano and still wonder the same thing.

Look religion is not about helping other people get that straight it is about controlling other people. I mean if everyone Actually did as jesus did we wouldn%26#039;t have a church jesus preached the word outside or directly to those in need he didn%26#039;t errect a church that could seat 30000 people.

Southern christian churches have this religion thing all messed up i still wonder why when I go to an Oak cliff baptist church the sermon is always preaching hope to the people always using the term god is going to do great things in your life%26quot; But if I go to a Church in frisco the sermon is totally different its usually about the blessings we recieve and that god is DOING great things in my life not GOING to do great things.

Just remember God doesn%26#039;t need money if he did he would just create it God can do anything right? so a tithe is for PEOPLE NOT GOD so the church can have money and the preacher can go buy a Cadillac or my favorite the Corvette and continue living that hypocritic lifestyle
