What would you do in my situation? (serious answers please)?

I%26#039;m a 7th grade teacher. Today is the last day of the 3rd 9 weeks. I submitted my grades for printing early this AM. Because Spring Break is approaching next week, I allowed my students to relax %26amp; watch %26quot;The Goonies%26quot; as a treat.

One of the school administrators walked into my classroom during 1st per. By 2:30, the principal was calling me down, telling me that a parent had called %26amp; complained about me showing a film. I realized, though, that this was probably a lie. My students%26#039; parents have NEVER complained about me showing movies before- much less a PG-rated film at the END of a grading period. I%26#039;m almost positive that it was the administrator, who is infamous for tattling.

My question is, should I confront this adminstrator, or should I simply leave it alone? I don%26#039;t want to promote the issue if it%26#039;s been resolved, but I resent the fact that my principal was clearly fabricating the story about the parent. The facts don%26#039;t add up. I also resent the mettling administrator. WWYD?

1. Did you have a parent permission slip? This is a must for showing movies...it is your get out of jail free card.

2. Can you tell the principal that you want to call the parent and apologize? That might catch him in a lie if there was indeed a lie.

3. If the principal says that the parent doesn%26#039;t want him to reveal the name, you know he is a liar.

Have you used www.bubbabrain.com? New website to help your students study. Very teacher friendly and the kids dig it

i would probably just leave it alone. :) .

I would confront the admin. You did not do anything wrong. Tell him that you would just like to know the truth. Because you have never done anything wrong in the past, you would just like to know why this offended him or the parent

Don%26#039;t worry about it and try not to rock the boat.

If it comes up again ask the administrator what the school policies are on showing films in class.

i agree with you thats its not the parent. like how would the parent even know you were watching that if the child had not gone home yet?? its hard to say because if you confront the admin you could get fired for saying something wrong, so mayby just ask what parent and if the admin dosnt give a strait answer or hisitates you know he/she is lying

Well I think that I would talk to the administrators about it and just tell them what happen that it is pg and just talk to them and hope for the best!! I am in high school a freshmen and my teacher has show some VERY bad movie and I think that they talked to her about it but nuttin major happen!!!!

Good Luck!!

7th grade?

You don%26#039;t say what subject you teach...I will take a guess that it is English or communication some how.

Turn the %26quot;GOONIES%26quot; into an assignment for next week..then you can %26quot;ignore%26quot; the administrator and shove it up their nose that %26quot;NO-I was NOT being an absentee teacher..I was using a tool to reach my class on a different level.%26quot;

Regardless of what subject you teach you can turn this into an assignment.

English-obvious choices: creative writing, rewrite the story, carry on the story to the next level, what if you were Willie? etc.

Science: Is it possible that this underwater world exists? where on the map would it be? etc

Computers: computer generate part of this movie.

History: what historical figure could this be based on. How did this movie....influence..blah blah blah...

This way..no harm, no foul...you come out smelling like a rose and get to thumb your nose without being obvious or snitty.

just leave the administrator alone and talk with the principal about the situation.

As a Canadian teacher, I realize that my response may be different.

Rather than %26quot;confronting your admin. as him/her if there were issues that had arisen about your showing a movie. It is possible that the issue may not lie with your showing a movie, but in the movie you were showing in relation to the curriculum which the students were showing. Please also remember that 1 squeaky parent causes an admin to react. Money is based on school enrollment. It may have had nothing to do with your teaching, but an admin needing to look good and defend his but for a parent. So talk to your admin.

Send out letters to all your parents apologize for what happened %26amp; they will get to talking %26amp; you will find out who did it
